A 68-year-old woman is in critical condition after being hit by a semitruck near Tangelo Park on Tuesday morning.

It happened at the intersection of Sand Lake Road and Kingspointe Parkway around 11 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was standing on the north shoulder, waiting to cross the road, when the semi attempted to make a right turn onto westbound Sand Lake Road. As the semi turned, the trailer portion left the roadway and its right side struck the woman.

Officials said the driver initially stopped, but as emergency workers arrived, the driver drove off in an unknown direction.

The best description troopers have of the vehicle is a semitruck with a white trailer.
