Sacramento, CA : Long Beach man killed in Highway 118 crash on Sunday, August 6, 2017
A 39-year-old Long Beach man was found dead Sunday in a vehicle that went off the side of Highway 118 in Simi Valley, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 2:20 p.m. near the Tapo Canyon Road exit of eastbound Highway 118.
Authorities said they were told a 2013 silver Toyota Corrolla was in a wash between the highway and a local neighborhood. The woman who contacted authorities reported being able to see the vehicle and an unconscious man from her backyard, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol and the Ventura County Fire Department responded to the incident. The first unit on the scene could not see the vehicle from the highway but eventually spotted it under the freeway within a wash, according to the CHP.
Authorities said it was obvious the man was dead and requested officials with the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the driver's identity and cause of death.
No other injuries were reported from the crash.
None of the highway lanes were closed during the investigation, but authorities said traffic was delayed because people noticed their presence.
The incident happened around the same area where the CHP said they received a report of a wrong-way driver on eastbound Highway 118 near the Tapo Canyon Road exit at 5:50 a.m. Authorities said they could not confirm whether the incidents were related.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing by the CHP Moorpark office. Anyone with information about the incident can contact them during regular business hours at 553-0800.
