Sacramento,CA : Man suspected of DUI arrested in major injury head-on crash on may, sunday 7th 2017

A 29-year-old man suspected of driving drunk was arrested and he and another driver were seriously injured after a head-on crash Sunday night east of El Cajon.

The man was heading east on Highway 8 Business east of Los Coches Road about 11:06 p.m. when his Chevrolet S-10 pickup crossed over double-yellow lines and slammed into a 2003 Hyundai Accent heading west, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision left the truck driver and a 22-year-old Lakeside woman driving the Hyundai trapped in their vehicles. They both had to be extricated by rescuers.

The crash closed the roadway for a short time as officials worked to clear the cars and the debris.

The man, who lives in El Cajon, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence while causing an injury accident, the CHP said.

Both drivers were hospitalized with major injuries.
