Memphis, TN : Man dead after crash into fried chicken restaurant on Elvis Presley Boulevard on Monday, September 29, 2014

A man is dead after running into a Jack Pirtle’s Fried Chicken restaurant with his car. The crash happened at 4349 Elvis Presley Boulevard. “She said a whole truck up in there. So I just panic,” Mary Howard said. A massive hole is all that remained on the side of the building on Monday. “I was in the back room back here and I heard the noise so I looked out and I saw the ice machine all the way across,” Howard explained. The crash scared workers so badly that they thought their lives were in danger. “I thought it was the roof falling in,” Howard said. “That’s what I thought.” Around 8:00 a.m. in the morning, a man went crashing through the building in his car. “They said he had a heart attack, he lost control, and ran into the building on the side,” Jonathan Williams said. “It came through the yard, completely through the side fence, and crashed into the building,” Lorie Hudson, Manager of the restaurant, said. Police said the man was rushed to Regional Medical Center where he died moments later. “It’s very devastating,” Hudson explained. “When I got here they were working on the gentleman when I got here right in front of the building.” The parking lot was filled with emergency crews and blocked off with police tape. “The entire truck was in the building. There was about this much of it sticking through the back of the building,” Hudson said. People who passed by could not believe their eyes, and workers were sent to other stores while crews worked to repair the damage.
