Mt. Angel, OR : Passenger dies, teenage driver involved in fatal crash near Mt. Angel on Monday, January 26, 2015

A woman died in a car crash Monday evening after the driver led police officers on a chase through Mt. Angel.

The driver, 17-year-old Drake Carson, of Salem, ran off after the crash that killed one of his passengers and seriously injured another. He was found and taken into custody, state police said on Tuesday.

The incident started around 6 p.m. Monday when an officer tried to pull over a tan, 2001 Chevrolet S-10 pickup at South Main and May Streets in Mt. Angel.

According to police, Carson sped away on Howell Prairie Road and crashed about a mile north of Saratoga Drive.

A female sitting in the back seat was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile male sitting in the front passenger seat was taken to a Salem hospital with serious injuries.

Carson ran from the crash scene.

Troopers said Tuesday morning that he'd been found and taken into custody.
