Orange City , FL : 12 - Year old Girl injured in Hit and Run Crash while walking to school knocked down by a vehicle in the crosswalk at U.S. Highway 17 on Friday Morning , February 13th 2015

A driver hit a 12-year-old girl and then drove away, according to the Orange City Police Department.

Police said the child was walking to school when she was bumped and knocked down by a vehicle in the crosswalk at U.S. Highway 17-92 and East Ohio Avenue on Friday morning.

The girl told police that the driver stopped and asked if she was OK then left the scene, investigators said.

Authorities said the child suffered minor injuries, but her parents took her to a hospital as a precaution.

Police said the driver should have waited for police to arrive.

Investigators said the driver is a white man in his 20s who is traveling in a blue or gray 4 door vehicle with rust on the front bumper.
