Van Wert, OH : 2 dead, 1 injured in crash at Liberty Union and Van Wert Willshire roads on Sunday, 15th December, 2019

Two people died and one person was seriously injured in Van Wert County, Ohio crash.

The sheriff's department was called at 4:24 p.m. Sunday to the two-vehicle crash at Liberty Union and Van Wert Willshire roads.

Eric Mwamba of Lexington, Kentucky, was driving a 2009 Ford Fusion south on Liberty Union Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign. An eastbound 2015 Ford Edge driven by Cynthia Schumm on Van Wert Willshire Road struck Mwamba's car on the passenger side, police said.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged and ended up on the east side of Liberty Union Road, police said.

Mwamba was taken by helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne where he was pronounced dead. A passenger in Mwamba's vehicle, Laetitia Tchamala of Haltom City, Texas, died at the scene, police said.

Schumm was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Van Wert Health and later transferred by helicopter to St. Rita's Hospital in Lima, Ohio.
