Lynchburg,VA : Elon Road reopens after tractor-trailer, sedan collide on March, Monday 19th 2018

A head-on collision involving a tractor-trailer and a car on Virginia 130 (Elon Road) in Amherst County hospitalized two people and closed a stretch of road for nearly seven hours Monday.

Emergency responders received a call at about 7:45 a.m. Monday about the wreck near Ambrose Rucker Road and East Perch Road, Public Safety Director Gary Roakes said.


Roakes said the truck carrying woodchips collided with the car; Virginia State Police identified the vehicle as a 2000 Toyota sedan.

The tractor-trailer driver was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the other driver was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with critical injuries, he said.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said shortly after 2:30 p.m. the road had re-opened.
