YAKIMA, WA : Victim of fatal hit-and-run crash on Saturday, October, 28th 2017
Yakima police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who fatally stuck a 37-year-old woman near downtown Yakima on Saturday.
Theresa Lumley was found just before 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Sixth and East Spruce streets.
She was discovered by Yakima City Council candidate Jason White and Selah City Council candidate Jeremie Dufault. When they found her, she didn’t appear to be breathing or have a pulse. While she was found about 30 feet from the intersection, her shoes were still in the middle of the street.
There were no skid marks near the scene, but White said he saw what appeared to be broken car parts.
Residents of the area, which on Monday saw a police standoff, said they’re tired of the crime and violence that’s hit their neighborhood. Others said busy South Sixth Street is so poorly lit it could have been hard for the driver to see Lumley. Some complained about drivers speeding down the mostly residential street at 40 to 50 mph.
Lumley is believed to have been living most recently on the Yakima Greenway, but previously had been a resident at the women’s winter shelter for several years and went by The Depot on occasion for hygiene items, snacks and her mail, Yakima Neighborhood Health Services spokeswoman Leah Ward said.
