Mayo,FL : Mayo woman dies in early-morning crash on August, Sunday 27th 2017

A Mayo woman died as a result of a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado wrecked around 1:30 a.m. Sunday while traveling east on NW Banta Acres Road in eastern Lafayette County.

The truck, driven by 42-year-old Joey Allen Broughton, of Mayo, traveled off the roadway and onto the southern shoulder and hit a tree, according to the FHP report.

Broughton suffered minor injuries in the accident, according to FHP.

However, passenger Jessica Rhodes Broughton, 44, also of Mayo, was pronounced deceased on the scene of the accident, the report states.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.

Lafayette County EMC and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office assisted FHP.

The role, if any, alcohol played in the crash is still being investigated and charges are pending an investigation, according to FHP.
