Phoenix, AZ : Arrest made in Peoria crash that left a 12-year-old dead and 4 other children injured on Sunday, November 27th 2016
A woman has been arrested in connection with an accident that left one child dead and seriously injured four others, Peoria police said Sunday.
Amber Sloan, 23, of Phoenix, was being held on suspicion of reckless endangerment in connection with the accident, which occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday at Deer Valley Road and 87th Avenue, Peoria police said.
Police said that impairment did not appear to be a factor and that Sloan is cooperating with officers. Police reported late Sunday afternoon that one of the children injured in the accident died.
The accident involved a minivan and a pickup truck driven by Sloan, police said.
Investigators believe the minivan was traveling east on Deer Valley Road and the pickup was heading north on 87th Avenue. It appears Sloan failed to yield at a stop sign and her truck collided with the minivan, which was carrying seven people, five of them children, all boys, ranging from 6 to 12 years old, police said.
One child was ejected, police said, and two others were trapped inside the van and had to be extricated at the scene, police said.
One of them, a 12-year-old, died Sunday, Peoria police said. Two others suffered life-threatening injuries, police said, while two other children and two adults, a 32-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, both from Peoria, suffered serious injuries, police added.
Sloan suffered minor injuries and was released from a hospital.
