Maysville, KY : Vanceburg man killed in Lewis County AA accident Wednesday morning, April 5, 2017

A Vanceburg man was killed in an accident on AA Highway Kentucky 9, Wednesday morning.

According to Kentucky State Police Morehead Post 8, at 7:27 a.m., KSP was called to respond to a two-vehicle collision at the 14 mile marker on Kentucky 9 in Lewis County.

According to the preliminary investigation, Brandon Yates, 35, of Vanceburg, had been traveling eastbound in a Chevrolet Blazer when he crossed the center line and struck a Dodge Dakota pickup truck in the westbound shoulder head-on, police said. The Dodge was operated by Dalton Cooper.

Yates was pronounced dead at the scene by Lewis County Coroner Tony Gaydos.

Cooper, 22, of Tollesboro, was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., in stable condition.

Also assisting at the scene were Vanceburg Fire Department , Garrison Fire Department, Black Oak Fire Department, Lewis County Fire Department, Portsmouth Emergency Medical Services, AirEvac 97, Lewis County EMS, Vanceburg City Police, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Lewis County Highway crew.
