Chico, CA : Motorcyclist killed in Highway 99 crash on Sunday afternoon, June 19, 2016

A Chico man who died after losing control of his motorcycle Sunday afternoon on Highway 99 has been identified as Donald Shields, 53.

According to California Highway Patrol, at about 3:30 p.m. Shields was speeding north, just south of East First Avenue, when he came upon a vehicle ahead of him driving about 65 mph.

The motorcyclist used his brakes and swerved left, losing control of his motorcycle which flipped several times into the median of the highway.

Shields, who was wearing a helmet, died later at Enloe Medical Center.
