Single-vehicle crash in Creek County; alcohol believed a factor

A Bristow man died late Wednesday night after a single-vehicle wreck in Creek County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Arlie Clint Cates, 49, was eastbound on State Highway 66 when he departed the roadway, overcorrected and struck a guardrail.

Troopers say Cates' truck then rolled a number of times before coming to rest on its top.

Cates and his passenger, 49-year-old David Van Orsdol, were both ejected and Cates was pinned under the truck.

Both were transported to area hospitals. Cates was pronounced dead at St. John Hospital in Sapulpa due to head and internal injuries.

According to OHP, Cates' smelled of alcohol and is believed to have been driving under the influence.
