Franklin County ,IL : Two people injured after 2-car crash on I-57 in Franklin Co. kills horse Saturday ,August 1st 2015
Illinois State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash Saturday in Franklin Co., Ill. that killed a horse.
Officials say Wayne Foy, 46, from Streamwood, Ill., was traveling northbound on Interstate 57 near mile marker 70 in the left lane at approximately 1:05 p.m.
In the car with Foy were three other people, including a 14-year old child and a nine-year old child.
Joshua Reagor, 38, from Karnak, Ill., was also traveling northbound in the left lane directly behind Foy.
Reagor also had three people in the car with him, including a 17-year old child and a 10-year old child, and was pulling a horse trailer.
The northbound traffic ahead of both vehicles had begun slowing down due to another crash that had occurred ahead of them.
Officials say Reagor failed to reduce his speed in time and struck the rear of Foy's vehicle.
Reagor left the west side of the roadway and drove into the grass median, causing the horse trailer he was pulling to overturn, fatally injuring one of the horses inside.
Neither driver or any passengers were reported to have been injured.
Both northbound lanes of Interstate 57 were closed for approximately 30 minutes, causing traffic to back up significantly.
Response crews were on scene for approximately two hours.
Reagor was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
