SMYRNA, TN : 1 killed in crash in Smyrna on Wednesday, September 28th 2016

One person was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer and car near the Smyrna Airport.

According to police, the wreck occurred just after 9 a.m. on Sam Ridley Parkway close to Nolan Drive and the Lowry Street ramp.

The victim has been identified as Daniel Stephens. The driver of the tractor-trailer has been identified as James McClung.

Investigators said it appears the Suzuki Forenza that Stephens was driving crossed from the westbound lanes of Sam Ridley Parkway and entered the eastbound lanes directly in front of the tractor-trailer.

At this point, police are unsure why Stephens, 29, crossed into oncoming traffic.

McClung was not injured in the crash.

All lanes of Sam Ridley Parkway were closed for several hours, but have since reopened.

Police said this investigation is ongoing.
