Philadelphia, PA : 2 teens killed in Roosevelt Blvd. crash were en route to hospital on Friday, 14th October 2016
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Two teenagers were killed on Roosevelt Boulevard early Friday after the driver of a car they were in ran a red light rushing to get to a hospital where one of their fathers was being treated after an assault, police said.
The crash happened about 12:30 a.m. Friday on the boulevard and Front Street in the Olney section of Philadelphia.
Police said the crash occurred when an 18-year-old male, who has not been identified, was driving a 2002 Hyundai Sonata on the boulevard toward Temple University Hospital. There, his father was being treated after being robbed and assaulted on his food-delivery route.
The Sonata ran a red light and was hit by a 2004 Ford Explorer traveling on Front Street, police said. The Sonata then struck a traffic light.
Two passengers in the back seat — the driver's older brother Osman Zeynulov, 19, and Maggie Lynn Goloff, 17 — were killed.
Goloff, of the 800 block of Cottman Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:43 a.m., police said. Zeynulov, of the 400 block of Renard Street, was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:56 a.m.
The Sonata's driver was taken to Einstein for treatment of minor facial injuries, police said.
The Explorer's 55-year-old female driver also was treated at Einstein for minor wounds to her face.
The crash remains under investigation.
Separately, police gave this account of the assault preceding the crash:
The father, 48, was delivering pizzas near the corner of Clarissa and Bristol Streets in Nicetown around 11:45 p.m. when two men flagged him down, saying they had placed the order.
When he got out of his car, one man pointed a gun to rob him, and the second man came up behind him, police said. The father reached for the gun, and the first man used the weapon to hit him in the head three times. During the struggle, a police car passed by and the two assailants fled toward the 1900 block of Bristol Street.
Both suspects were described as black men, around 5-foot-8. One was wearing a gray zip-up sweatshirt and white T-shirt, and the other was wearing all black.
That incident also remains under investigation.
