Los Angeles, CA : Motorist injured in collision on Highway 14 near Escondido Canyon Road on Monday, June 21, 2015

A driver ran into the back of a Caltrans work truck Monday on the northbound Highway 14 near Escondido Canyon Road, touching off a small brush fire, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

A silver-colored Chevrolet Cruze slammed into the back of a Caltrans work truck parked on the shoulder of the highway’s northbound lanes in Agua Dulce shortly before 10 a.m., the spokesman said.

The car started a fire that briefly spread to the hillside, according to reports received by the California Highway Patrol from passing motorists.

“One patient was transported to a local hospital,” the Fire Department spokesman said. “We had a report of a vehicle hitting a tractor. It then became a single-vehicle fire with a small extension of the fire into the grass area by the highway.”

According to initial reports received by the CHP, the motorist was outside the burning car when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters doused the car fire and the adjacent brush fire by 10:18 a.m. And began spraying the car with flame retardant shortly after 10:30 a.m., a witness said.

The victim’s identity, age and medical condition were not disclosed.
