FLEMING, NY : State police ID motorcyclist killed in Cayuga County crash on Saturday, July 22, 2017

A Cayuga County motorcyclist was killed this weekend after a pickup truck turned into his path on state Route 34 in Fleming, state police said.

Christopher Hilliard, 30, of Moravia, was driving a 2015 Kawasaki motorcycle north on Route 34 (South Street Road) in Fleming at 12:47 p.m. Saturday, troopers said. At the same time, Gregory Fitts, 52, of Rogersville, Tenn., was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck south on the same raod, state police said.

As Fitts turned left onto Silver Street, his pickup struck Hilliard's motorcycle, state police said.

Both vehicles caught fire after the crash, troopers said.

Fitts was not hurt.

Hilliard was taken to Auburn Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Based on a preliminary investigation, investigators on Sunday said speed may have been a factor in the crash. The investigation is continuing.
