Sacramento, CA : A motorcyclist and a California Highway Patrol cruiser collided on May, Tuesday, 16th 20172017

A motorcyclist and a California Highway Patrol cruiser collided Tuesday in Kettleman City, leaving the motorcyclist in the hospital, according to CHP reports.

The crash occurred about 2:25 p.m. along Highway 41, south of 25th Avenue.

The officer was patrolling in the area when he saw a northbound car being driven at 86 mph and decided he would give chase, the report said.

The officer activated his emergency lights, cleared the northbound lane of approaching traffic and began a U-turn, but as he turned across the broken center lines, he collided with the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, Robert Reyes, 32, had moderate injuries. He was taken to Kaweah Delta District Hospital for treatment. The CHP officer was not hurt.
