New Castle, DE : Driver killed when car hits drainage culvert, utility pole on Route 141 in New Castle on Thursday, October 13, 2016

Delaware State Police say a woman was killed when the car she was driving left a ramp and hit a drainage culvert and utility pole.

The agency said in a news release that crash occurred about 1:15 a.m. Thursday on the ramp from Interstate 95 to Airport Road and Route 141 in New Castle. Troopers say 31-year-old Elisabeth Ballance of New Castle was driving on the ramp when her car drove onto the grass median.

Police say Balance's car hit a cement drainage culvert and a wooden utility pole before coming to rest in the grassy area.

Ballance was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is under investigation.
