Lufkin, TX : Three people died in 2-vehicle head-on wreck on Highway 103 east of Lufkin on Monday afternoon, Oct 26, 2015

Investigators say a head-on traffic accident in East Texas has left three people dead, including both drivers.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the wreck happened Monday afternoon on Highway 103 about 4 miles east of Lufkin.

DPS says a westbound car driven by 49-year-old Carl Hammerly of Broaddus was attempting to pass another vehicle.

Authorities say Hammerly's car struck an eastbound Jeep driven by 68-year-old Sarah Ryan. Her husband, 70-year-old James Ryan, was a passenger. The couple from Etoile died later at a hospital.

Hammerly died at the scene.
