LAPEER COUNTY, MI : 3 hospitalized after I-69 crash during traffic stop near Lapeer on Thursday, 11th January 2024

Westbound I-69 was closed at Lake Nepessing Road on Thursday evening after a sheriff deputy and vehicle passenger were injured by a crashing vehicle during a traffic stop.

Lapeer County Sheriff Scott McKenna said a deputy made a traffic stop on the shoulder of westbound I-69 between Hadley and Lake Nepessing roads and a second deputy pulled behind for backup.

Deputies asked a passenger in the vehicle they pulled over to step outside for further investigation. Police did not release information about what prompted the traffic stop or additional investigation.
