Amherst, VA : S.C. woman charged after Amherst County crash on Tuesday, May 3, 2016
A South Carolina woman was charged after a man was killed Tuesday in an Amherst County crash.
Peggy S. Ford, 63, of Bluffton, S.C., has been charged with DUI in a fatal crash, Virginia State Police said.
Police have not released the man’s name, saying they still are locating his next of kin.
Police said a box truck was driving north on U.S. 29, less than a mile south of Virginia 662 (Gettes Mountain Road), at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday when it ran off the left side of the road and overturned in the southbound lanes of U.S. 29, spilling household furniture and other items into the road.
Ford wore a seatbelt. She was treated and released from Lynchburg General Hospital. She now is held at the Amherst Adult Detention Center.
The man was not wearing a seatbelt. He died at the scene.
Police continue investigating the crash.
