Tulsa, OK : 73-year-old man dies after crash on East 11th Street on Wednesday evening, May 11, 2016
A 73-year-old man died Wednesday evening after he apparently ran a red light and struck an SUV at an intersection east of downtown Tulsa, police said.
Just after 6 p.m. a Tulsa police officer came across the crash at 11th Street and 73rd East Avenue, Sgt. Robert Rohloff said.
It appeared the 73-year-old driver ran a red light and his gray SUV crashed into a black SUV. On impact, the black SUV rolled onto its side and the gray SUV rolled backward into the median, Rohloff said.
A bystander who went to check on the 73-year-old found him in cardiac arrest. That person, as well as the officer, gave the driver CPR, and he was taken by ambulance to St. John Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, Rohloff said.
The man who died was not wearing a seat belt. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he died from a medical condition or the impact of the crash. A medical examiner will determine his cause of death, Rohloff said.
The driver of the other SUV — who was wearing a seat belt — received minor injuries, Rohloff said.
He did not release the deceased man’s name Wednesday night, as officers were attempting to notify his next of kin.
