Logan, UT : 10-year-old dies after UTV crash in Paradise on Sunday, 11th September 2016
The child who died in a UTV crash in Paradise Sunday has been identified as 10-year-old Savanna Kay Petersen of Cache County.
Petersen was the passenger in a side-by-side utility vehicle that crashed into a large trash dumpster on the side of the road, according to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Cache County Sheriff Lt. Mike Peterson, two juveniles were riding in a Polaris Ranger UTV on a public roadway at 1100 East and 8600 South, just outside of city limits.
The 13-year-old driver of the UTV drove off the roadway at about 3:35 p.m. and in an attempt to correct the maneuver, he struck a large trash dumpster that was on the side of the road. It appears the passenger side of the UTV took the impact and part of the dumpster struck Petersen, Mike Peterson said in a press release.
The 10-year-old girl was rushed to Logan Regional Hospital by ambulance with a head injury and she was pronounced dead just after arrival. The driver was not injured.
The accident is currently still under investigation by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Utah Highway Patrol.
