Clinton, IA : 36-year-old man killed in crash north of Benson Road on Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Authorities have released the name of a 36-year-old Clinton man who died in a traffic accident this morning in Whiteside County.

Thomas M. Weinger was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-vehicle accident that happened on Sand Road, approximately a quarter mile north of Benson Road at 4:12 a.m. today.

During the investigation, Whiteside County sheriff's deputies determined a red Pontiac driven by Weinger was traveling north on Sand Road when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.

The vehicle crossed over the southbound lane and struck the guardrail prior to coming to a stop. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whiteside County coroner. The investigation is ongoing.

The sheriff’s office was assisted on scene by Albany Fire, Albany EMS and Midwest Collision.
