Coastal city, OR : Mother, 14-year-old daughter die in U.S. 30 crash near Astoria Thursday morning, September 1, 2016

An Astoria woman and her 14-year-old daughter died at the scene of a crash east of the coastal city Thursday morning, troopers said.

Sabrina J. Rainey, 38, was driving east on U.S. 30 when she lost control of the car while rounding a corner, the Oregon State Police said in a news release. She crossed the centerline, and a Kelso, Washington, man traveling west hit the passenger side of the 2009 Suzuki sedan she was driving.

Troopers didn't publicly identify the teen who died.

The Kelso man, Jordan L. Waliezer, 31, was taken to an Astoria hospital for treatment to minor injuries. He was driving a 1999 Dodge pickup truck.

The crash happened around 8:15 a.m. near milepost 94. The highway was completely closed for a half-hour before officials opened an alternating, single lane. Officials completely reopened the highway around 1 p.m.
