Melrose, MA : Driver dies after crashing through Medford storefront early Friday, April 7, 2017

A woman died early Friday when her car crashed through a storefront in Medford.

The vehicle went across a busy intersection and crashed into the LensCrafters in the Fellsway Plaza at Wellington Circle, according to a witness.

“The car went airborne across the six-lane intersection with sparks flying,” witness Matt Knight said. “It sounded like a plow scrapping the ground at first.”

Knight said the car landed about 300 yards off the Mystic Valley Parkway and slid into the store.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her name has not been released.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, the incident occurred at around 6:15 a.m. when she lost control of her vehivle going west on Route 16. The Lenscrafters store was not open at the time of the accident, and nobody else was injured.
