A 16-year-old led deputies on a lengthy chase last week that ended when the teen's car went into the Clinton River, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said.

In a statement, the sheriff's office said a deputy tried to pull the teen over Thursday morning around 5 a.m. after the teen's car swerved off Joy Boulevard in Clinton Township and narrowly missed a pedestrian.

The teen took off and led deputies on a chase that lasted more than six minutes. Dashcam video of the chase shows the teen driving across lawns, hitting mailboxes and going through ditches before ending up on a dead-end street and driving into the Clinton River.

Deputies said the teen swam across the river and tried to hide, but they used a Taser-like weapon to get him into custody.

The Macomb Township teen will be prosecuted in Macomb Juvenile Court for larceny in a building, possession of marijuana, felonious assault, unlawfully driving away an auto, fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest.
