Nashville, TN : Four people injured after FedEx driver issued fatigue citation in a 8-vehicle crash at I-24 On Thursday, May 5th, 2016
The driver of a FedEx semi truck has been given a fatigue citation after a crash involving at least eight vehicles caused significant delays during the morning commute Thursday on Interstate 24 West.
A portion of the road was closed near Old Hickory Boulevard as Metro police and the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated.
Authorities told News 2 a FedEx truck hit at least one vehicle, possibly another, which then set off a chain reaction.
One vehicle was pushed underneath the semi and another caught fire and was ultimately destroyed.
The driver of the now-burned car suffered non-life threatening injuries to his head and leg.
Three others were also taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Everyone has since been released.
Travis Plotzer with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the driver of the FedEx truck was later cited for fatigue.
“A violation was listed on the inspection report for the driver being fatigued and he was issued a citation. Metro Nashville is the lead agency investigating the crash,” Plotzer wrote in an email.
News 2 reached out to FedEx for comment. The following statement was released by David Westwick, FedEx Ground Media Relations:
