Ward County, TX : Two Midlanders killed in collision involving tractor trailer on Interstate 20 near Pyote on Wednesday morning, March 9, 2016
Two Midland women died in a three-vehicle crash in Ward County Wednesday morning, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Driver Veronica Carrillo, 45, and her passenger, Maria Yolanda Bueno, 52, were killed in the crash that occurred on Interstate 20, about three miles east of Pyote, according to the release.
Carrillo was driving a tractor-trailer westbound in the right lane of I-20 when she lost control of the vehicle and skidded to the left, hitting a Ford F-350 being driven by a 20-year-old Midland man, according to the release. The pickup was westbound in the left lane.
Carrillo’s vehicle continued to skid to the left, began to overturn in the center median and entered the eastbound lanes, according to the release. The vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lanes, according to the release.
The third vehicle was a truck with towed units being driven by a 37-year-old Lone Oak man. The trucker was traveling eastbound, attempted to swerve to avoid Carrillo’s vehicle and then crashed into the woman’s vehicle, according to the release.
Carrillo and Bueno were pronounced dead at the scene. The Midland man received non-incapacitating injuries but the Lone Oak man wasn’t injured, according to the release.
The posted speed limit at the scene of the crash is 80 mph. It was raining at the time of the crash, according to the release.
