NORFOLK, VA : Barkhamsted woman killed in head-on crash in Norfolk on Tuesday, 27th November 2018

A 65-year-old Riverton woman died and a Norfolk woman was injured Tuesday night when their cars collided on a snow- and ice-slicked Route 44.

State police said Susan Hancock lost control of her westbound Hyundai Elantra on a curve in the road near George’s Garage and Loon Meadow Drive. The Elantra spun and struck an oncoming Honda CRV in the eastbound lane, police said.

Hancock succumbed to traumatic injuries, police said. The CRV’s driver, Orie Sullivan, 56, of Wheeler Road in Norfolk, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Hancock was unresponsive when first responders arrived and was declared dead after being taken by Norfolk Ambulance to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington.

The slick road conditions appeared to have contributed to the crash, Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Jon Barbagallo said.
