Rockford, MI: Teen driver airlifted after single-car rollover on Thursday, July 30th 2015

A Rockford teen was seriously hurt after being thrown from his car in a rollover crash on Thursday afternoon.The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. in the 6600 block of Sunfish Lake Avenue NE south of Belding Road in Cannon Township, southeast of Rockford.The Kent County Sheriff’s Department says the driver, 17-year-old Chase Burghgraef from Rockford, lost control of his 2002 Honda Civic as he negotiated a curve. The car rolled and the driver was ejected.The driver was airlifted to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. The sheriff’s office says he sustained serious injuries, but is expected to survive.The sheriff’s office says alcohol was not a factor, but the teen was not wearing his seat belt.A stretch of Sunfish Lake Avenue was shut down
