Standish, ME : Car swerves, hits pedestrian, crashes into tree on Middle Jam Road on Thursday, July 30, 2015
Deputies said a car, whose driver swerved to avoid another vehicle, hit a person who was walking on Middle Jam Road and then hit a tree.
The crash happened around 5:25 p.m., Capt. Donald Goulet with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.
Goulet said Glenn Miles, 50, of Windham, was trapped in his car after the crash. The pedestrian, Stephen Carpenter, 59, of Standish, was thrown into the woods.
Goulet said the driver of the other car never stopped.
Middle Jam Road was closed for several hours.
Goulet said speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
Carpenter was taken to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Miles was taken to Maine Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, Goulet said.
