One person has died in a three-vehicle crash on S.C. 557 near Clover in western York County, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
William Dellinger, 60, of Concord, N.C., died at the scene, according to police and the York County Corner’s Office.
The drivers of the two other cars were also injured, including one who had to be cut from the wrecked vehicle, police said.
The crash happened when the vehicle driven by Dellinger crossed the center line of the highway and hit another car head on, said Lance Cpl. Gary Miller of the highway patrol.
The crash happened at 8: 22 a.m. near Jackson Lake Lane, east of where S.C. 557 joins with S.C. 55, east of Clover.
The two other cars were heading north on the highway. The vehicle driven by the Dellinger was heading south on S.C. 557, Miller said.
When Dellinger’s vehicle crossed the center line, Miller said, it forced the driver of the first vehicle in the path to swerve off the road to avoid a collision.
The first vehicle hit a tree. The driver was taken to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The car behind the car that swerved to avoid the crash was hit head-on by Dellinger’s vehicle, Miller said.
The driver who was hit head-on had to be cut from the vehicle, and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The road was closed for a short period of time while troopers worked the scene.
