St, Kihei, HI : Moped rider injured in head-on crash on South Kihei Road, south of Nohokai Street on Thursday, 13th December 2018

A 25-year-old Kihei man sustained critical, life-threatening injuries Wednesday night when the moped he was riding collided with a silver 2018 Cadillac XTS on South Kihei Road, south of Nohokai Street, police reported.Around 10:35 p.m., the man driving a black Yongfu moped was riding south, against traffic, in a northbound lane of South Kihei Road, police said. The man crashed head-on into the four-door sedan driven by an Alaska resident with a passenger, also from Alaska. Both vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts and were not injured.

The moped rider was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center emergency room in critical condition.

Police closed South Kihei Road between Nohokai Street and Piikea Avenue for about three hours while the crash scene was investigated.
