ALEXANDRIA, IN : Alexandria man injured in off-road vehicle accident on Saturday, December, 16th 2017
An Alexandria man was injured Saturday evening after he was thrown from an off-road vehicle.
State conservation officers and Madison County Emergency Management and Homeland Security responded about 9:15 p.m. to the report of the accident involving Mathew Montgomery, 39, in the 2600 block of South County Road 500 West.
"The injuries were non-life-threatening," Indiana Conservation Officer Mark Baker told The Herald Bulletin on Sunday.
Montgomery originally was believed to be pinned under the vehicle after riding through a field, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. He later was located in the backyard of a residence in the 4200 block of West County Road 100 South.
He had managed to call family who were at the home he left. They called 911 for assistance.
Montgomery was not pinned under the vehicle, but he was badly injured. He was taken to St. Vincent Anderson Hospital in stable condition, Baker said.
He reported striking something that caused him to be ejected over the handlebars of the vehicle. The vehicle then ran over him before coming to a stop in a brush pile, according to the press release.
Montgomery suffered multiple broken bones and lacerations, including a gash in his chin and one on top of his head, according to the release. He reportedly wore gloves and goggles at the time but was not wearing a helmet.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, according to the release.
The incident remains under investigation by conservation officers.
