ST. ALBANS, VT : A Vermont waste hauler was killed when a utility van crash on Friday, August 11, 2017
Police say an employee of a Vermont waste hauler was killed when a utility van crashed into the rear of the truck into which he was loading trash in St. Albans.
Police say Patrick Wedge, of St. Albans, did not see or hear the vehicle coming when it hit the waste hauling truck at about 6:30 a.m. Friday.
A second employee of Casella Waste Systems jumped out of the way of the oncoming van and suffered minor injuries.
Police say the driver of the van, Ben Smyth was trapped in the vehicle. He was freed and then taken to the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans where he is reported to be in serious condition.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
