Albany, NY : North Greenbush man charged after head on collision with NYS police car early Sunday morning, October 12, 2014

A 69-year-old North Greenbush man faces charges after allegedly causing a head on collision with a New York State police car early Sunday morning. William Danish Jr. is charged with felony reckless endangerment and misdemeanor aggravated DWI. Police said the two troopers were traveling on I-90 eastbound when Danish Jr. hit their vehicle near exit 8. The North Greenbush man was driving in the wrong direction, according to police. Both troopers were taken to Albany Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released with non-life threatening injuries. It was determined that Danish Jr. had a blood alcohol content of .18 percent. Choices 301 is a program that focuses on the dangers of DWI. Ed Frank Jr. founded Choices. He said it's ironic how two state troopers could end up in this predicament. “The governor's saying we have an epidemic with sexual assault in the colleges. We have an epidemic with heroin,” Frank Jr. said. “We have an epidemic with drunken driving. Those two troopers, thank God, that they're still alive.” Frank Jr.'s been informing the public since he lost his son to cancer in 2005. He said his son didn't have a chance to live; however, others do, and with choices come consequences. “If you're gonna drink, don't be selfish,” he said. “Have a plan. It's simple. And people that are at a party and see somebody that might just be knocking a few down too many, there's a moral responsibility that goes with that also.” Nearly 12,000 people die every year in DWI-related accidents, according to drinkinganddriving.org. Frank Jr. thinks nothing will change until people realize that accidents can happen to anyone. “It's a societal problem. There's no question about it,” he said. “It's okay to drink and drive? It's not okay to drink and drive. That's my life, your family's life and everybody else concerned.” Police said Danish Jr. was arraigned in the Town of North Greenbush Court and was remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail on $7,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court October 21. Source : North Greenbush man charged after head on collision with NYS police car
