Gary, IN : Porter Township man killed in lawnmower accident on Sunday, 20th May 2018

A Porter Township man is dead after after a lawmower rolled on top of him.

Family members found Thomas Wilkening, 49, at around 12:50 a.m. Sunday at the base of a culvert on their 450 South property, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said in a release. His body was found underneath a zero-turn-radius mower, according to the release.

Relatives told first-responders they last saw Wilkening at around 9 p.m. Saturday mowing around a pond out of sight of the house, the release said. They later noticed that lights in their pole barn were still on, which prompted them to check on Wilkening.

Wilkening was pronounced dead at the scene. The Porter County Sheriff’s Department and other rescue agencies assisted.
