Upper Macungie Township, PA : Bethlehem pair escapes serious injury following Upper Macungie crash on Saturday, December 27, 2014

A Bethlehem pair escaped injury when their vehicle was struck by a car that ran a red light on Route 100 in Upper Macungie Township, police say.

Police say Carlos Burgos, 71, of Southington, Connecticut, was traveling south on Route 100 shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with the Interstate 78 ramp.

Burgos swerved to miss a vehicle driven by David Colon, 54, of Bethlehem. He then struck a barrier rail, police said.

After impact, Burgos traveled back across the travel lanes and struck Colon's vehicle, police said. He then struck a guardrail on the west side of the road.

Burgos and his passengers, Sandra Burgos, 64, of Southington, Connecticut; a 10-year-old boy from Southington, Connecticut; and a 5-year-old boy from Wethersfield, Connecticut went to an area hospital for minor injuries.

Mariluz Colon, 57, of Bethlehem, a passenger in Colon's vehicle, as well as Colon, were not injured in the crash.
