Southport ,NC : Teen in critical condition after being hit by car on Saturday evening ,July 4th 2015

A teenage boy was airlifted to a hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Southport Saturday evening.

Southport Police Department Officer Crooks said the victim is in critical condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

According to Southport PD Chief Jerry Dove, the vehicle ran over the teen on West Moore Street around 10:30 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle, Joseph Smith, 23, was charged with a DWI and serious injury by vehicle by the Southport Police Department.
