Loveland, CO : None injured as vehicle crashes into Dry Creek on April, Monday 17th 2017

A vehicle holding a woman and a child veered off Monroe Avenue near East 41st Street Court and crashed into Dry Creek around 12:40 p.m. Monday.

Non-life threatening injuries occurred to the driver of the car, a black Volvo XC90 SUV, and she was transported to a local hospital by Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Services, according to Michael Cerovski of Loveland Fire Rescue Authority.

Both the Volvo's occupants were able to exit through its front window on the passenger side after it crashed into the creek, Cerovski said.

Traffic on Monroe Avenue between 37th and 41st streets was blocked for about an hour while crews recovered the vehicle from the stream.

The car crashed into the creek, which was about three feet deep, on the east side of the bridge on Monroe Avenue just south of East 41st Street Court..

The front end of the vehicle sank slightly into the creek's bed before the Larimer County Dive Rescue Team assisted a tow truck with Stan's Auto Service in retrieving the car.

Tire marks passing through a break in the fence along Monroe Avenue were visible about 150 yards from where the Volvo entered Dry Creek, which flows into Horseshoe Lake, Cerovski said.

What caused the driver to stray from the road and drive on the grass until it landed in the creek was unknown, as of 2 p.m. Monday, Cerovksi said.

Loveland Police Department will conduct an investigation into the crash, Cerovski stated.

Local water utility departments will be notified of the incident in case gas, oil or other contaminants that may have spilled into the creek can be removed, Cerovski said.
