Fort Collins, CO : Hit-and-run crash blocks N. College for 6 hours on Friday, November 25th 2016
One person was hospitalized and another jailed following a hit-and-run crash that closed North College Avenue for six hours late Friday.
Juan Lara-Medina, 35, of Fort Collins, is being held at the Larimer County Jail on allegations of vehicular assault, failing to remain at an accident scene and driving under the influence. Fort Collins police say Medina was driving a Ford F150 pickup south on College at 7:30 p.m. when he drove through a red light and hit the front of a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu that was turning from westbound Willox Lane onto southbound College.
Lara-Medina's pickup continued south into the oncoming lanes of College until it struck a 2011 Toyota Camry head-on. The driver of the Camry, 47-year-old Robert Browell, suffered serious injury and was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.
The driver of the Malibu, 71-year-old Don Stephenson, and his passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Police say Lara-Medina fled the intersection of College and Willox on foot, but was captured a short time later. He remained in jail Saturday morning.
Police believe alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash. Anyone with information about the crash who has not previously spoken to police is asked to call Officer Tim Brennan, 970-416-2229, or Larimer County Crime Stoppers, 970-221-6868.
