Findlay, OH : Motorist badly hurt in I-75 crash on Friday, 26th August, 2016
A Utah man suffered life-threatening injuries Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on northbound Interstate 75, near the Ohio 235 exit, according to the Findlay post of the State Highway Patrol.
Alan J. Cline, 49, of Kaysville, Utah, the driver of one car, was taken by Life Flight medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, the patrol reported.
Another driver involved in the crash, Desrene K. Brown, 49, of Bluffton, was treated at the scene for minor injuries, the patrol said. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Marion K. Dryden, 41, of Redford Township, Michigan, was not injured, according to the patrol.
Dryden was driving a 2015 Volvo truck on northbound I-75 around 1:20 p.m. when he failed to maintain an assured clear distance ahead and struck the rear of Cline’s 2016 Nissan Versa, the patrol said. The Nissan then hit Brown’s 2015 Mercedes C300, according to the patrol.
After the impact, both cars went off the left side of the roadway, and Cline was ejected from his car, the patrol said.
The truck traveled off the right side of the roadway, according to the patrol.
Dryden and Brown were both wearing safety belts, the patrol said, but it is unknown whether Cline was using a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation.
Assisting at the crash scene were Bluffton Fire and Emergency Medical Service, Bluffton Police Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and four towing services.
