Hendersonville, NC : Driver cited on charges after Henderson Co. wreck on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2014
Hendersonville, North Carolina
Troopers said the driver of a car that rear-ended a Henderson County school bus Tuesday morning was airlifted to the hospital.
The wreck blocked traffic on Asheville Highway near Ferenvilla Road in the Mountain Home area, according to Henderson County dispatch.
According to the Highway Patrol, they received a call about the accident about 7:35 a.m. and said it involved the bus and another vehicle.
Lt. Jeff Gordon said both the bus and a vehicle were headed south when the car ran into the back of the bus, driving up underneath it.
Gordon said three of 20 students onboard complained of injuries but were not serious enough to be taken to the hospital.
However, Gordon said the car's driver was injured and pinned for a short time before a medical helicopter flew the driver to Mission Hospital.
No other details about the driver's injuries were released.
The driver, 31-year-old Chele Whalen, was charged with failure to reduce speed.
