Crab Orchard, KY : Amish man killed in crash on KY Hwy 39 outside of Crab Orchard on Wednesday, 22nd August 2018
A 52-year-old Amish man is dead following a collision between a car and an Amish buggy on KY Hwy 39 outside of Crab Orchard early Wednesday afternoon.
Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum pronounced Bruce Troyer dead at the scene at 12:56 p.m. The accident occured just north of Crab Orchard near the Lincoln County Produce Auction area.“The were both traveling north and she (driver of vehicle) struck him from the rear and it threw him off the buggy,” Marcum said. “Of course, he hit his head and he died instantly.”
Troyer, who Marcum said was hit probably about a mile from his home, was not riding in a typical Amish buggy when he was struck.
“He was on a two-wheeled cart that had a seat on it that I think they call a work buggy. He didn’t have anything around him to protect him. He was very exposed.”
Troyer’s horse was found uninjured.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident and the investigation has been turned over to the Kentucky State Police Post 7. The KSP had not released an official press release at press time.
