Quincy,IL: Three injured in crash involving Quincy Transit Lines bus on September, Wednesday 27th 2017

Three people were taken by ambulance to Blessing Hospital after a crash involving a Quincy Transit Lines bus Wednesday morning in downtown Quincy.

The Quincy Police and Fire departments and the Adams County Ambulance responded to the crash at 9:35 a.m. on Third Street just south of Maine.

The crash report from the Police Department said a 2009 Ford Taurus driven by Bonita L. Newberry, 65, of Lebanon, Mo., was heading south in the west lane of Third Street when she tried to turn into the rear parking lot of 300 Maine and crossed in front of a 2016 Ford bus driven by Douglas R. Grenell, 52, that was in Third Street’s east lane.

Grenell was unable to stop the bus, which hit the driver side of the Taurus.

Three people, including Grenell and a child, were placed on backboards before being moved to ambulances.

Bus passenger Chuck Kaltenbach said Grenell tried to avoid the crash.

“(The driver) hit the brakes, but they were already in our lane,” Kaltenbach said, adding that he thought the people in the Taurus were looking for something.

He believed six people were on the bus.

Newberry was issued a citation for failure to yield for a left turn. She was not injured.
Both vehicles were drivable after the crash.
