Shelby, NC : Young woman seriously injured after being ejected from her car on Wesson Road on Tuesday, April 5, 2016

A young woman was seriously injured after being ejected from her car on Tuesday along Wesson Road, according to reports from N.C. Highway Patrol.

Loren Jones, 18, of 1601 Lackey St., Shelby, is currently at Carolina's HealthCare System - Cleveland suffering from serious, but non-life threatening injuries, according to reports from N.C. Highway Patrol.

Jones, a Crest High School student, was driving on Wesson Road around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. She hit a curve too fast and left the road. She drove through a barbwire fence and her car flipped uphill for 43 feet. Jones was ejected from the car, through the windshield, and landed 20 yards away from the vehicle. Troopers believe she was driving upward of 80 miles per hour, and she was not wearing a seat belt. Jones faces charges of reckless driving and a seatbelt violation, said Trooper T.J. Gantt.

Only one vehicle was involved and Jones was the only person injured in the crash.
